The Chinese have a lovely tradition for remembering departed family. Ancestral tablets in their simplest form are usually pieces of wood carved with the family member’s name. These tablets are usually kept in the ancestral home. The Chinese diaspora however very often have no access to an ancestral home and these tablets are then placed in temples or clan associations.
Rainbow Paradise’s Memorial Wall was inspired by this lovely Chinese custom. The photos we pin up are like ancestral tablets.
This week we carefully took down last year’s photos and gently placed them in dated boxes within our Memorial Chest for safekeeping.
We love having these beautiful photos on our wall but after a year of looking down on us smiling, it’s time to hand over the baton.
